"One of the biggest problems, and I can attest to it, that cats have is sometimes not using their litter box. We try to keep the acidents to a minimum, it happens. And when it happens it feels so good to know that I can go in, use a product, and it takes care of the problem, and doesn't damage the rug. The cats are happy, the rug is happy, the husband's happy - I'm happy!"

Eliminate Cat Urine Stains and
Odor Using Rug Doctor

Cats make wonderful companions and are very trainable but sometimes develop habits that can damage your carpeting.

When a cat urinates on carpeting or furniture upholstery there is both a stain and odor problem to eliminate. Cleanup should occur immediately whenever possible for two reasons:

To absorb the liquid as much as possible to prevent if from soaking through to the backing and pad below.

Because dried pet urine stains can have a permanent bleaching effect on some types of carpet depending on how they are dyed. Nylon carpets colored with acid dyes are much more likely to bleach out with pet urine. Disperse dyed Polyester, solution dyed Olefin or solution dyed Nylon will tend not to suffer this fate. The problem may actually not become apparent until the carpet is cleaned at which point the carpet dyes previously released by the pet urine are removed and suddenly a light spot appears. This can tend to be more visible in darker carpets.

To clean up the problem site use Rug Doctor Pet Stain Remover. On fresh stains Pet Stain Remover prevents high alkalinity build-up and prevents color fade. On older, dried stains it works to dissolve the crystallized cat urine embedded in the carpeting.

It's important to be thorough in cleaning up older cat urine spots because the dissolved crystals may release the strong scent of feline pheromones (glandular secretions contained in the urine to mark the cat's territory). Partial cleaning can actually make the odor seem worse as the stain may wick up from the backing and re-crystallize on the carpet fiber tips. Look for urine stains on adjacent walls or furniture as well and make sure they are also cleaned up.

Rug Doctor Odor Remover product can help - especially with deeply penetrated older stains. Its enzyme-based formula will actually digest the cat urine crystals to eliminate the problem. The best course of action is to apply Pet Stain Remover - rinse (maybe more than once for old stains) and then follow up with Odor Remover if required
