Clean Carpet
The powerful Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 is hired and used daily by both households and professional cleaners. It is designed to be lightweight and user-friendly.
If desired, move any furniture out of the area. Thoroughly vacuum the carpet using your own vacuum cleaner before starting. Pre-treat problem areas with Britex Spot 'n' Stain, Britex Urine Remover or, Britex Odour Blaster to target localized spills and odours.
Remove any furniture away from the area you wish to clean.
Using your regular dry vacuum cleaner, thoroughly vacuum the area to remove any loose dirt and debris.
Pre-treat any problem spots with Britex Spot 'n' Stain, Britex Urine Remover or Britex Odour Blaster for best results.
Mix Rug Doctor Carpet Cleaner with hot tap water in a clean bucket, following the directions on the product label. Ensure the water is hot but not so hot that it could scald or burn your skin. The Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 has a tank capacity of 9 litres.
To begin, lower the restraining wire and remove the white upper tank. Pour the cleaning solution mixture into the red lower tank through the filter screen. Fill the tank until the liquid reaches the “Fill to here” line, which is marked halfway up the filter screen.
Next, refit the white upper tank into place. Secure the tank and the clear plastic dome by replacing the restraining wire to ensure a proper seal. Check the back of the machine to confirm the hose connection is firmly attached.
Plug in the power cord and position the machine in the area you plan to clean. Before using the Rug Doctor, thoroughly vacuum the area with your own dry vacuum cleaner to remove any loose dirt.
Finally, pre-treat any problem spots with Britex Spot 'n' Stain, Britex Urine Remover or Britex Odour Blaster for best results.
Refer to the label on top of the machine and turn the switch to the “ON” position for carpet cleaning. While holding down the red button on the top of the handle—or, depending on the model, squeezing the red trigger—slowly pull the machine backwards in a straight line at a steady pace. Make sure the front metal vacuum slot stays in contact with the carpet surface. After a few seconds, you’ll begin to see dirty water entering the clear dome.
About 30cm before reaching the end of your cleaning pass, release the red button to stop the spray while the suction continues. This helps avoid oversaturating the carpet. Then tilt the machine back slightly and move it forward to position it for your next pass. Overlap each pass by approximately 5cm to ensure consistent, even cleaning.
When the cleaning solution has run out, you’ll notice a change in the machine’s sound and the dirty water will stop flowing into the clear dome. At this point, stop and empty the upper white tank, then refill the lower red tank with a fresh solution mixture before continuing.
Once you’ve finished cleaning, take the machine outside or over a drain. Turn the machine “ON” in the upholstery setting to empty any remaining solution from the lower tank.
Before returning the machine to the store, be sure to clean it according to the instructions located on the back of the machine. Finally, switch the machine to the “OFF” position.
Clean Upholstery
The Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 is ideal for cleaning carpets but it can also be used on couches, car seats, and stairs with the Rug Doctor Upholstery Tool - designed for all those hard-to-reach areas.
Rug Doctor and Britex products are safe for use on many fabrics, including some delicate fibres. However, it’s important to note that damage may occur if used on fabrics not designed for hot water extraction cleaning. Do not use on suede, Haitian cotton, leather, or non-colourfast fabrics.
Before cleaning, prepare the surface by thoroughly vacuuming or brushing to remove any loose dirt or debris. Set up the machine, making sure to check and secure the hose connections located at the rear of the machine.
First, detach the top portion of the large vacuum hose at the back of the machine. Connect this top portion to the vacuum hose on the Hand Tool. Then, attach the brass connector to the small diversion valve and tighten it securely to ensure proper engagement.
Next, remove the upper white tank from the machine. In a clean bucket, mix Britex Upholstery Cleaner with water according to the label directions, and pour the solution into the lower red tank.
Refit the white upper tank and secure it by replacing the restraining wire, making sure the tank and clear dome are sealed tightly. Plug in the power cord and position the machine where needed. Refer to the label on top of the machine and turn it to the Upholstery/Hand Tool cleaning setting.
Before beginning, always test for colourfastness. Clean a small, hidden area and blot it with a white towel. If no colour transfers, you can safely proceed. A small amount of colour on the towel suggests a slight risk of colour running, so proceed with caution. After cleaning, allow cushions to dry on clean sheets or towels laid flat on the floor.
Begin cleaning by working at a slow, steady pace. Squeeze the hand tool lever as you pull the tool across the fabric, making sure to slightly overlap each stroke.
Important: Do not press the button on the machine handle while using the hand tool, as it is not needed for upholstery cleaning.
If foam begins to build up around the hand tool, try pulling a little faster or make a second pass over the area without squeezing the lever to vacuum up any excess solution.
When you've finished cleaning, disconnect the upholstery tool. To empty any remaining solution from the lower tank, take the machine outside or place it over a drain and turn the machine to the upholstery setting. This will release the remaining liquid.
Before returning the machine to the store, make sure it has been cleaned in accordance with the instructions located on the back of the machine. Reconnect the vacuum hose securely, and ensure the switch is turned to the OFF position.
Note: For velvet upholstery, use a soft brush or towel to gently fluff up the damp pile and prevent matting.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Make sure the lower tank is filled with cleaning solution before starting. If dirty water stops flowing into the upper tank, it usually means the lower tank is empty. At that point, empty the dirty water from the upper tank and refill the lower tank with fresh solution.
Also, double-check that the small solution hose at the rear of the machine is securely connected.
Ensure the plastic dome is properly sealed to the upper tank. Check that the filter inside the clear plastic dome is clean, and verify that the large hose connection at the rear of the machine is secure.
Make sure the machine is switched on by confirming the power cord is plugged in and the power switch on top of the machine is turned on. If the machine still doesn’t power up, press the reset button, which is located on the top of the Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3. Additionally, check your home’s circuit breakers or fuse box to ensure power is being supplied.

Rug Doctor Carpet Cleaner has been specially formulated for use with the Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3.
Cleaning solutions that are not made specifically for a water extraction method of carpet cleaning should not be used as damage to the carpet can occur. Carpets need a specific PH range of cleaning solutions that are both effective in loosening dirt yet they won't damage the carpet fibres.
Products that are not made for the kind of rinsing, brushing and extraction provided by the machine will leave residues once they dry that attract dirt.
Cleaning Carpets
Never use the machine on carpets or surfaces with standing water from floods or other sources. It is safe to use only on damp, not waterlogged or soggy carpets and upholstery.
As with all electrical appliances, using the Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 on excessively wet areas poses a risk of electric shock.
Berber carpeting can be cleaned with the Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3, but care should be taken to avoid over-wetting.
Due to its tight, looped weave, Berber holds more moisture than cut pile carpets, which can lead to extended drying times. To prevent this, limit cleaning to a single pass with the spray function. For best results, follow with a second pass without pressing the spray button to provide additional vacuum-only extraction.
The Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 and Rug Doctor cleaning solutions are not recommended for delicate items such as Oriental rugs, silk hand-loomed rugs, braided rugs, or non-colourfast carpets or rugs.
The Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 is designed specifically for carpets and upholstery, so it’s best not to use it on tile, concrete, or other hard floor surfaces.
For hard floors, we recommend using cleaning tools specially designed for those surfaces to keep them looking their best.
To clean stairs, use the Upholstery Tool attachment and set the machine to the “ON” position for Upholstery/Hand Tool cleaning. Always take care when cleaning stairs to ensure safety.
Of course, just be sure to place the rug on a hard, clean, flat, and dry surface like concrete before cleaning.
Over-wetting can occasionally cause musty odours if the carpet stays damp for too long. If this happens, the first step is to remove as much moisture as possible by making several vacuum only passes - without pressing the red spray button. This helps lift excess water and speeds up the drying process.
Over-wetting carpets can sometimes lead to musty odours because the carpet remains damp for too long. If over-wetting occurs, your first step should be to remove as much moisture as possible by repeating vacuum-only passes with the machine.
It’s also a good idea to rinse the dome filter regularly - even if it doesn’t appear blocked - to maximize the machine’s vacuum airflow. After vacuuming, allow the carpet to dry thoroughly. If weather permits, open windows and doors to improve air circulation or use fans, heating, or air conditioning to speed up the drying process. These problems are rare, so it’s likely you won’t encounter them.
The Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 features a powerful vacuum motor that effectively removes liquid from carpets. However, if a musty smell develops, let the carpet dry completely and then spray with Britex Odour Blaster. The active enzymes in Britex Odour Blaster work to neutralize odours at their source. Follow the drying tips above to help accelerate the process.
